Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 2 release date, cast, plot and everything we know so far about the Starz spinoff’s return
Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 2 — key information
– Season 2 renewed before season 1 even aired
– Returns to Starz and MGM+ on September 18
– First teaser has been released
– Main cast expected to return
Outlander season 8 might have come to a painful end only a few months ago, but no fear — prequel series Outlander: Blood of My Blood is about to pick up the mantle once again.
Having made its debut on Starz and MGM+ last year, the series follows two couples who are transported from the battlefields of World War I to the rugged Highlands of 18th century Scotland without really understanding how they got there. Remind you of anything?
Yes, Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and (Sam Heughan) Jamie’s parents had exactly the same time-traveling experience as they did, only in Blood of My Blood, they are tiny little babies. In fact, we’ve only actually seen Claire on screen.
Now the saga is set to continue after season 1 split our young lovers up at the very last minute. But when is Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 2 being released, and what can we expect?
Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 2 release date
Huzzah! Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 2 will premiere on September 18, 2026.
We can expect new episodes to follow season 1’s release schedule of a new episode a week, and although nothing is confirmed, we can also assume it will have the same amount of episodes (10).
The release schedule should be the same on Starz (US) as it is on MGM+ (international).
Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 2 trailer — is there one?
Above is our first teaser trailer for season 2, which confirmed the release date of new episodes.
We only see about 45 seconds of new footage, which looks to be a continuation of season 1’s cliffhangers. A full season trailer will hopefully be released at some point in the next two months.

Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 2 plot predictions
Season 1 ended with the Henry and Julia reuniting at the standing stones of Craigh na Dun, hoping to return to their own time and their young daughter, Claire (yes, the one from Outlander).
From what we know about season 2 so far, it’s set to pick up at that very moment, as Julia is seen alone holding the baby.
As Starz puts it, “Separated from his love and hope, Henry must grapple with his mental health as he fights to find his way back to her.”
“You’ll see your characters at the end of season 1, and then where they start season 2 is wildly not what you’d expect,” Irvine told TechRadar shortly after season 1 was released.
“I wasn’t expecting it. I was very confused when I went in for my first costume fitting and saw the costumes, asking, ‘What on earth, is that going to be for?'”
What happens to Ellen and Brian is less clear, as they are only seen briefly in the new teaser trailer. In better news, though, they aren’t separated.
Will there be an Outlander crossover?
At the time of writing, there’s no indication that Outlander and its prequel series will have a direct crossover. However, because of the nature of time travel in the world, we also can’t rule it out.
For a straightforward crossover to work, Claire and Jamie would have to have travelled to a different part of time after the Outlander season 8 ending, which as we know, was its final season. Therefore, it’s unlikely that this type of crossover will happen, because otherwise nothing that happened in Outlander season 1 would make any sense.
What would be more likely is a flash-forward. Instead of Claire and Jamie travelling back in time, Ellen, Brian, Julia and Henry could travel forward. Balfe and Heughan could be brought back to film new scenes if their parents’ paths were to cross with their Outlander season 1 journey, watching from a hidden distance without anyone realising.
